PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

As a Internment/Resettlement Specialist for the United States Disciplinary Barracks, my core job function is to assist with supervision and management of military prisoners, and provide external security to confinement/corrections facility. I supervise confinement facility operations, counseling, management, training, and employment of military prisoners in confinement. I genuinely enjoy working with people from all backgrounds, and in my job I frequently meet new short term and lifetime sentenced inmates to work with so it has been crucial in my profession how to profile individuals in order to establish a respectable rapport with these inmates immediately that creates a non-hostile working environment.

Recreation Programs:

  • Responsible for any special events of indoor and outdoor activities to include: weight room, gymnasium, volleyball, basketball, running track, cardio fitness programs, music room and passive activities conducted in the inmate housing unit. Reporting inmate injuries, any developing situation with the potential for disruption/disturbance, assaults, suspicious behavior, threatening or unsafe conditions for the correctional specialists, staff, or inmates in the area, and preventing inmates from going into restricted areas.

Library:

  • Conducting the recreational side and the law section of the facility's library. Reported the loss of books that were $50.00 or more to the Director of DCP. Ensured the books did not contain materials in violation of Regulation 28-1, for example: sexually explicit materials, glamorization of drugs, or materials which pose a threat to the security of the facility.

Craft Shop:

  • Responsible for the overall implementation and operation of the Craft Shop Program. This includes: Technical instruction in all media offered in the Craft Shop. Conducted and developed Ergonomics Plan, Risk Management Plan and Hazardous Materials Plan. Ensured all keys, sensitive items, and security equipment were accounted for.

Housing Unit Operations:

  • Responsible for every housing unit supervising all inmates ensuring they were treated with human dignity in a fair, firm, and impartial manner. Apart of the Correctional Treatment Team that assisted with the counselors and staff. Supervising staff and inmates while coordinated with Deputy Directors on all matters concerning the custody, control, safety, and security of inmates assigned in the housing units, ensuring staff enforce all applicable regulations, policies and procedures. Conducted weekly safety inspections of the housing unit, taking appropriate measures to immediately correct all hazards, while reporting all uncorrectable deficiencies to the Booth Non-commissioned Officer. Worked with the Directorate of Treatment Programs and caseworkers assigned to each housing unit to assist in providing the best care to the inmate population. Monitored the correctional staff to ensure they were familiar with all policies, procedures, and safety requirements regarding the housing unit as well as teaching, coaching, and mentoring the correctional staff as applicable when dealing with tier checks, cell searches, and obtaining contraband.
