Surgical ICU Registered Nurse01/2011 to Current Northwell Health Lenox Hill Hospital – New York, New York Assess, admit, and maintain care for critically ill pre and post operative patients with a high volume in neuro-surgery. Many patients with multiple chronic diagnoses. Handle medication administration, start and titrate critical care IV drips, ventilation care, extubate patients, tracheotomy care, continuous bedside dialysis (CVVHD), wound care, maintenance of chest tubes, a variety surgical drains, assisting with endoscopic procedures at the bedside, tracheotomy placements, and central line insertions. Assess the need for, obtain, and interpret appropriate lab tests. Coordinating multidisciplinary healthcare services and immediate physician or PA care to the bedside when medically necessary. Charge nurse, oversaw 12 patients at a time and ran shift end briefs. Preceptor of new nurses and nursing students. Surgical patient discharge calls with review of post op discharge instructions. Surgical Telemetry/Step-down Registered Nurse02/2009 to 01/2011 Northwell Health Lenox Hill Hospital – New York, New York Assessed and maintained care for pre and post operative step-down surgical patients. These patients included, GI, bariatrics, ENT and neurosurgical patients. Part of my daily tasks included, admitting post operative patients from PACU and pre operative patients from ER and managing their care through discharge. This included telemetry monitoring, wound care management, medication administration, pain management, ventriculostomy drain maintenance, and various surgical drain maintenance, colostomy care, IV and Foley catheters insertion and maintenance, blood draws and assessing the needed for ordering, obtaining and interpreting lab of results. Also patient teaching for post operative home care and home drain management. Coordination of multidisciplinary healthcare services.
