The New Graduate ICU Nurse Residency consisted of 5 phases, including a six month orientation. I spent ten weeks of orientation in the Surgical ICU, ten weeks of orientation in the Neuromedicine ICU, and six weeks of orientation in the Burn and Trauma ICU. After completing orientation, I spent an additional six weeks in the Burn and Trauma ICU, and then went back to the Surgical ICU for six weeks before ultimately gaining full time employment in the Burn and Trauma ICU. This program allowed me to train in and gain skills and knowledge of diverse patient populations.
