Keeping the values of Florence Nightengale is a passion of mine as a nurse caring for patients. First, I come from a long line of nurses, so I continue to wear the nursing uniform with the white nurses hat as my grandmother, mother, aunts and cousin did in the past. My patients, especially older patients, find comfort and a level of trust when they see me first walk into their room. This discussion opener provides them with a calming sense of relief in a place that they find themselves otherwise terrified. Second, infection prevention is another passion as it was for Florence Nightengale, and I was able to successfully implement electronic hand hygiene monitoring in the majority of my hospital and it has been implemented now for 6 years. I love working with a pediatric population, despite that most pediatric patients are transferred to our sister hospital. Emergency medicine is a passion, because I love helping a physician and patient come to a diagnosis and set the course for their care. I love the variety of patients that come in, from pediatric emergency to mental health. Also, I have worked with our human resources department to recruit nurses from all over the country by advocating for the wonderful mountainous area in which we live and the activities that can be done here. My husband and I are rock and ice climbers, snow shoe racers, triathletes, and hikers so we know what the area can provide. I find these outlets are important for self care and health, so i may be at the top of my health and license to care for my patients.
