This position has taught me how to work in high-stress situations without compromising expert care. Administer moderate sedation, monitor EKG and vital signs, circulate, and record case events in Cath Lab. Manage patient pain and airway while emerging from anesthesia. Care for pediatric, adult, geriatric, and bariatric patients. Assist in other departments that include Outpatient Center, Stress Lab, Cardiac Rehab, and CT/Radiology.
Fit and educate patients on external, wearable defibrillator.
Working in this environment taught me how to prioritize, manage time, and delegate all while sensitively caring for my patients. Managed patients post-operative and step-down trauma patients. Colon resections, J-pouch formations, colostomies/ileostomies, mastectomies, femoral-popliteal bypasses, prostatectomies, bariatric procedures and wounds are examples of patient population. Many patients required diligent pain management with IV medications, PCAs, and epidurals. Other responsibilities included being familiar with needs of patients after various procedures, patient education, provided a comfortable environment for them to recover in.
