Working in this environment taught me how to prioritize, manage time, and delegate all while sensitively caring for my patients. Managed patients post-operative and step-down trauma patients. Colon resections, J-pouch formations, colostomies/ileostomies, mastectomies, femoral-popliteal bypasses, prostatectomies, bariatric procedures and wounds are examples of patient population. Many patients required diligent pain management with IV medications, PCAs, and epidurals. Other responsibilities included being familiar with needs of patients after various procedures, patient education, provided a comfortable environment for them to recover in.
