As a team member of the first African American Team to attempt a summit of North Americas highest peak, months of diligent fundraising and physical training were paramount in preparation. As a National Outdoor Leadership (NOLS) funded expedition, strong communication and leadership skills were of utmost importance in creating a successful expedition. Mellon Fellowship Research Awardee January 2004 Kruger National Park, South Africa
As a fellowship awardee, I spent four intensive academic months in South Africa conducting research in the field of Social and Tropical Savanna Ecology. Along with the leading of lectures and conferences, daily field data was gathered and analyzed. I conducted independent research projects on the use of ecotourism and ecosystem services as used by the Mukuleke community for generating a viable economy, examined and critiqued, and finally presented to a board of research scientists from South Africa National Parks (SANP).

The David Walker Project December 2000 Seattle, Washington
As co-founder of the David Walker Project, I organized and participated in weekly held meetings with 10-15 students of Seattle Central Community College. The project was geared at developing a racial justice report card for S.C.C.C. through extensive research on student retention rates, student completion rates, demographic enrollment levels relative to the surrounding community, courses offered and other related criteria.
The Peoples Coalition for Justice (PCJ) J January 1999 Seattle, Washington
As a member of the grassroots organization, P.C.J., I organized and led monthly community meetings, rallies and marches, facilitated weekly steering committee meetings with a set agenda, working together with other members on public statements for the media geared at local racial and social justice issues. In addition, I attended weekly city council meetings where signatures and personal statements were presented to the city council regarding racial profiling by the Seattle Police Department (SPD). The primary focus of PCJ was the establishment of an independent civilian review board in order to monitor and criticize the behavior of the SPD.
