Having spent a majority of my law enforcement career as a traffic safety officer, I have made approximately 1,000 impaired driving arrests while serving on two different federally funded DWI Task Forces. Testified as an expert witness for the state in over 100 impaired driving cases being tendered in the fields of administration and interpretation of standardized field sobriety testing, horizontal gaze nystagmus and drug recognition expert. I also actively instruct in the fields of DWI Detection/Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement and the Drug Recognition Expert Program at several institutions. I am specialized in traffic safety with an emphasis in impaired driving enforcement and education.
Answers 9-1-1 calls for service, handles non-emergency and emergency calls. Dispatches appropriate responders via radio. Maintains proficiency in computer aided dispatch (CAD), maintains certifications in Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch and Emergency Police Dispatch through the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch. Also maintained certification through the North Carolina Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Division as a Telecommunicator.
Responsible for the general law enforcement services required by the Office of the Sheriff. These services include serving the public, keeping the peace as well as protecting the lives, rights and property of all those within the County of Hyde. A Deputy Sheriff's duties include providing security for the courts, transporting prisoners, answering calls from the public, investigating complaints and criminal activity, traffic enforcement, developing suspects, arresting perpetrators, serving civil and criminal process as well as other papers as required by the courts, and any other special assignments upon request.
Enforces local, state and federal laws when patrolling an assigned area. Responds to calls and investigates disturbances. Investigates suspicious conditions and complaints and arrests persons who are suspected of violations.
Serves civil and criminal process papers such as civil summons, magistrate summons, evictions, executions and warrants for arrest, criminal summons and subpoenas and mental health commitment orders. Maintains records ofwork performed.
Provides security for the courthouse. Screens citizens as they enter thebuilding. Maintains security in all courtrooms while court is in session and controls any prisoners in custody.
Patrols neighborhoods, businesses and other properties. Talks to citizens about neighborhood watch programs. Answers general citizen questions.
