Summary

Psychology is a main focus in all aspects of the work I do even if it does not appear so. A lot of the work I have done or am currently doing deals with people from elementary schools all the way to the ages of grandparents. Working with people is something I do often, love to do, and have lots of experience with. For example you will read below that I worked as a Drum Instructor for years and when working with kids sometimes you are the only one that gives them attention and sometimes you are the only one to set any boundaries or rules in their life. Knowing what kid needs what is so important to being able to teach them. As a photographer that specialized in wedding I often deal with family issues. I will have to resolve situations or deal with unwanted family members trying to divert the day to their attention or cause issues. I also deal with lots of different people from the little flower girls, the couple getting married, the father giving her away, and the grandparents who are so blessed they are there. With psychology I am able to help this wedding day go smoothly by being able to assess a scene and see what needs to be done for these people involved. I have become very good at thinking on my feed, conflict resolution, and many more people related skills. I have had experience working as a psychology intern and I have been very blessed to be given the opportunity to work with a very highly educated professor at my university who has two PhD's in psychology. With Shorter University I have been able achene some accomplishments such as beging on the Dean's List on multiple occasions and be apart of the Shorter University Georgia Epsilon Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, the International Honor Society in Social Sciences.

Experience

Psychology Intern Children's National Medical Center Fairfax, VA,
  • The internship involves assisting a faculty member with both academic and general work - related tasks during a typical academic semester.
  • Dr. Szostak is a blind psychology professor with two PhDs in psychology. The interns often help Dr. Szostak with many normal aspects to any internship but also some specialized ones since Dr. Szostak is blind.
  • Tasks include finalizations for exams such as reading over exams and taking an exam to test the proper difficult level.
  • Helps Dr. Szostak navigate or solve problems related to her vision impairment such as watching a video that she wants to show to a class to make sure the video is appropriate and on topic. As well as solving errors with typical school related computer programs.
  • Helps Dr. Szostak with the more typical sides of an internship such as running errors and making copies.
  • One more unique side to this internship is due the Dr. Szostak's visual impairment. I am often the way Dr. Szostak gets home everyday, goes grocery shopping, and runs any errands such as going to the bank. This has given me a lot of experience with the visually impaired. I feels this will be helpful in the field of psychology as there are many different types of people in the world and having personal experience with people of different disabilities is very important.
