Although my work experience has found itself manifested in many ways, one thing is consistent throughout it all: hard work. Not just occupationally, but in all aspects of my life, I place a value on working hard and actively pursuing my goals. I set realistic expectations for myself, and make plans for how to accomplish my goals. It takes patience to see these achievements come to fruition. It takes persistence to see your deliveries through. It takes hard-work to reach out to others and form relationships, and foster communication. It takes dedication to achieve academic and artistic success.
I actually attend an arts school, Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA), where the days are long and the workload is extensive. The skills of time-management, dedication, and communication were taught by lessons which seep into all aspects of life. Whether it is completing that last delivery, closing that last deal, finishing that homework assignment, or filing that last filing cabinet, it takes dedication, persistence, and hard-work to see your work done, and done well.
There are a many skills that my occupational history (as well as academic/artistic history) has nurtured and help grow. Aside from gaining an excellent sense of direction, working for the Postmates Fleet helped me gain a sense of punctuality to completing orders that is imperative to effectively working in a team. Beyond that, working with a partner really helped me gain communicating skills in my line of work, and allowed me to get better at multi-tasking; a very important skill in completing delivery services.
Beyond that, my work at SW helped develop relationships with my colleagues and help explore creativity in my line of work. I love how open ended, and independent I was in my work, it allowed me to set priorities for myself and really gain a sense of agency in my work.
Finally, being an office assistant really helped out with my organizational skills. It was something I previously struggled with, but now I am more equipped to tackle administrative/project coordinative responsibilities. It was a very eye-opening experience on the value of organization in a professional ( and even non-professional) setting.
As a postmates driver, there are a lot of responsibilities accompanied with the work. It requires consistent focus, patience, and determination. It also takes creativity because unlike a traditional occupation, postmates delivery fleet is very flexible. The benefit of this is that it worked around my busy schedule when things came up, and let ,e craft an individualized schedule that worked for me. The challenge of that, however, is that it takes a lot of initiative to make that schedule and to stick to it. This is a challenge that I consistently enjoy undertaking because it teaches me to become more independent and proactive about my work, and take my work into my own hands so I personally become invested in its completing.
Over the past two months, I performed an average of 7 deliveries in a day, 3 days a
week. Typically, this amounts to 150 miles on the road. I often work with a partner who also works for the Postmates Fleet. The benefit of working with someone is that we as a team are able to tackle more deliveries in a day. Faster, and stronger, working as a team also fosters a sense of collaboration that I believe strengthens my ability to perform. Discussion/collaborating is such an important part to success; working with partners in the POstmates Fleet is just one way of building up these team building skills.
For Swirly World LLC (SW), I had a fun time getting experience in a field I had no previous exposure to prior to working with SW. I worked on marketing, outreach, and even a got a taste at armature graphic design.
SW being a corporation that has many different designs and logos, outreach and marketing as the new designs come out is imperative. I was in charge of manning the social media presence, to make sure that costumers had access to purchasing our goods through social media platforms. Additionally, a social media presence is important to making connections to other businesses; thus commination can spark and relationships can form.
I also got a sense of what it took to make designs stick, pop out, and be original. Working alongside professional graphic designers, you really get a sense for how much creativity their line of work provides for, and I deeply admire and respect that! I loce positions that give me a chance to be creative in my work, and realy explore the relationships of my colleagues/clients to create a collaborative work environment that is most conducive to results. Overall, I loved working for Swirly Worlds LLC!
I actually began working under Los Angeles Iron and Steel company (LAIS) at a relatively young age because my employer happened to e my father! My father took over the family brininess roughly 15 years ago, having taken it through a recessions and now a pandemic, my father has had to guide LAIS through a number of hardships. He wasn't the first however: come 2023 LAIS will be 100 years old, having gone through many different tales of leadership and many hardships accompanying it.
I have a lot of respect for my father and his line of work. LAIS is now currently a commercial real estate company, and I help out around the office. This could include mailing tenets, filing paperwork, organizing the office; general organizational tasks tp help keep the office looking tidy. Even though what I'm doing may seem small, I always take pride in the fact that I am able to give back to such a respectable company. And beyond that, I am glad to help my father, and give back for all the things he's given me.
