Based out of St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, AZ. Responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and supervising of Patient Transportation and Hospital activities. Successful management of client relations, patient and customer satisfaction, program quality standards, patient flow improvements, and performance improvement for both dispatchers and transporters at two Carondelet hospitals - St. Mary's and St. Joseph's. Created, reported and interpreted statistical data to distinguish trends, times, and improve overall patient flow within hospitals. Created incentives and motivated staff to function as a team in achieving goals and maximum productivity. Oriented, trained, and developed dispatchers and transporters through two software, page and phone handling system changes at both hospitals and acted as a positive role model; possessed integrity, focus, commitment, flexibility, diplomacy and a team spirit.
Responsibilities included, but was not limited to, dispatching for 2 ambulance companies, 5 fire departments, and several flight crews, including helicopters. I received calls from the Sheriff's Department and City 911 dispatchers, took rural 911 calls, alarm company calls, along with transportation requests from hospitals, nursing homes and other care facilities in Tucson and surrounding areas. Dispatch responsibilities also included updating and verifying patient insurance with insurance companies, giving information, direction, and instruction for life saving procedures to 911 callers. Dispatching the closest and most appropriate units to the scene or facility while giving any pertinent updates, details, and safety concerns to the units responding in a calm and professional manner. I also relayed general information to public callers and referred them to the appropriate offices, or facilities. Proficient in using a wide variety of resource materials. Maintained all training, policies, procedures and protocols concerning this position. Acted quickly and calmly in busy and extreme conditions with a great ability to multi-task, using 4 computers and radio equipment. Proficient computer and communication equipment skills.
EMT-Basic on Ambulances working alongside Tucson Fire Department to transport BLS patients, and inter facility transports. Responsibilities included, but was not limited to, the transportation, care and assessment of basic life support patients from Tucson Fire Department, Tucson Police Department, hospitals, shelters, private homes and care facilities. Giving appropriate assessments, triage, written and verbal reports to the hospital concerning the physical and mental health of patients. Working in a calm and professional manner in extreme circumstances.
After 2 years, I also became a Field Training Officer, training new EMT's in the policies, procedures and protocols of our company, radios, working with the fire department, police department, hospitals, and care facilities, driving the ambulance, cleaning quarters, map reading, and patient care and evaluation. Proficient in written, verbal and communication skills for hospitals, patients and insurance companies.
