Timely and accurate research charts to settle patient complaints to achieve resolution of the complaint before the patient takes it to the formal grievance level. Was given autonomy yet also worked with staff to include multiple providers, administration, nursing, the Idaho Department of Corrections, and facility security to problem solve concerns and formal grievances. Created and maintained monthly logs on Excel and provide a breakdown of numbers for monthly and yearly averages . Produced a detailed account of findings and resolutions to the IDOC Health Services Director and Corizon Health. Responsibilities are also to monitor and report any trends so that a plan of action can be utilized if needed. Preparation of several forms are included in these duties of various monthly reports. Prior to my promotion to Ombudsman, I worked as the Outpatient nurse and was responsible for scheduling management and staging patients for one to three providers which entailed taking vital signs, O2 stats, eye exams, reviewing of chart for labs and tests, taking verbal orders and implementing them regarding medications and treatments. Nursing skills utilized for this position: suture removals, basic orthopedic injury care, basic wound care, injections, vaccinations, oxygen administration,throat cultures, nebulizer treatments, penile swabs, urine and hemocult testing. Preparation and assistance for provider procedures such as toenail removals, sutures, incision and drainage of cysts, and kenalog injections. Aided in emergent transport. Also worked in pharmacy for institutional pill call where medications and narcotics were administered in a strictly controlled environment of approximately 1400 bed facility.
Correctional Alternative Placement Facility
Was responsible for medical care of 400 bed facility. Emergent care and transport arrangement as needed, lab draws, EKG's, Mental Health and Chronic Disease clinic staging and verbal orders implementation. Ordered and kept inventory of all medications. Administration of medications within facility to include separate diabetic call with blood glucose checks and insulin injections. TB plants and readings, injections, daily sick call assessments Chronic Disease Program nursing assessments and patient education per protocols, intake interviews and processing for continuity of care. Worked at women's facility and assisted provider in gynecological exams,also EKG's, medication administration and inventory for 300 bed facility, intake assessments and interview process that includes ensuring continuity of care by continuing previous medications, treatments, mental health needs and appointments. Sick Call clinic which includes nursing assessments to determine care and needed referral to provider.

A Chronic Disease Program required 90 day monitoring of patients, that nursing scheduled, and ordered labs and medications to coincide with their Chronic Disease follow ups based off of protocols, reviewed for accuracy by the Chronic Disease provider. In addition was entrusted, as needed to run a a well organized pharmacy for 1300 bed facility. Ordered medications, inventoried medications, and handled reordering of chronic disease medications per facilty practices to ensure continued dosing of critical medications. Stocking and counting of sharps per shift in a strictly controlled environment. Staged and assisted Mental Health Provider by taking verbal orders and implemented psychotropic dosing. Monitored medication effects daily, as possible, on the mental health patients. Monitored non-compliant patients if medications were missed over three days by reporting to mental health clinicians. Nurse sick call duties entailed an offender submitting a Health Services Request, upon where patients were evaluated with a nursing assessment and treated per nursing protocols, then triaged as needed, to the provider for further evaluation and treatment. This department gave the autonomy that allowed me to develop my nursing assessment skills and to treat patients within my scope of practice as needed.
