My name is Nevaeh Elizabeth Cruz. I am a native of Georgetown, Kentucky. I attended Anne Mason Elementary, Royal Spring Middle School, and am a 2020 graduate of Scott County High. I have been a part of the Summer Reading Program at my church for many years, first I was a student learning to read, a volunteer to assist the tutors and readers, and worked myself up to being a tutor. I was in the Media Arts Program at Elkhorn Crossing School for the first 3 years of high school. I have had experience with taking care of people in need from a very young age. My great-grandmother was legally blind, had early dementia, and was bed ridden. My grandmother was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. I had to help her to the bathroom, help her bathe, provide support to eat and drink, wash her laundry, organize her hospital room, do minor physical therapy (daily walks, wheelchair if needed), and help her change her clothes. I grew up in a house with my mother who had stress induced seizures. My uncle was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia around 2015 and both but my cousin and my brother both severe from extreme anger management, the best way to describe their actions is to say they may have Intermittent Explosive Disorder. My Senior year 2019-2020, I had the honor of being a peer tutor, in Mr. Shelby Reynolds classroom. At first I didn't think I would really enjoy being a part of the class but after about a week I warmed up and found out half of each and every child is unique and each one has their own personality and they just grow on you. I have learned many skills over the years, how to stay calm, be patient, and be aware of my surroundings during times like these.
