I am currently a student at Hampshire College pursuing degrees in World Health and Chinese.
I plan to study midwifery and women's world health post graduation.
I graduated from an arts and science academy in Seattle with high honors, making the dean's list every semester. At graduation, the teachers recognized my work as "graduate level," affectionately calling me 'Rosemarian the Librarian." I have traveled throughout China and Europe, often alone or with just a friend. In addition to volunteering for various Seattle organizations, I have been laying the groundwork for a career in international women's health.
I graduated high honors with a 3.9 GPA.
As co-leader of my high school's Queer Straight Alliance (2011-2014), I helped run meetings, plan and lead discussions, organize events, and reach out to people in the community to get involved in the organization. I served on Teen Tix Youth Board in Seattle for four years (2010-2014), working to secure low-cost theater tickets for students. During my first year at Hampshire College, my academic work has focused on global health and Chinese, including getting involved with the school's Chinese extra-curricular activities. I've been a Sexpert's member at Hampshire (2014-2015), sitting on a panel that addresses teen sex challenges. .
My involvement with Teen Tix -- an organization that makes it possible for youths in Seattle to see a variety of performance art and visual art for only $5 a ticket -- was a four-year commitment. The organization provides opportunities for teens from all backgrounds to engage deeply with the arts, such as arts leadership, arts criticism and arts training. As a youth board member I discussed ways to get teens involved in the arts, planned events, helped fundraise, and gave general advise to the organization. As the Teen Tix Youth Board President (2013-2014), I helped lead meetings and met with other arts boards throughout the community to bridge the gap between the youth and the arts in Seattle.
I am adept with social networking (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr ...); I am competent with math; I am clear and concise when working in customer service; I love doing online research and exploring government policies and challenging issues; I am comfortable reading and speaking basic Chinese; and I am a writer (winning a student competition in playwriting in 2014).
