As a team leader, I monitor the flow of the unit, advocate for staffing needs, assist nurses on the floor, and support in any conflict resolutions that are needed. As a preceptor, I am required to orient new staff to the IMC unit, show updated forms and policies, and to encourage new nurses to perform new tasks and skills sets.
As a nurse in the post cardiac intervention unit I was required to pull sheaths, read rhythm strips, discontinue drains, and work with multiple cardiologist and cardiovascular surgeons.
As a traveling nurse I was required to learn a units routine and policies within a short amount of time. I had to be able to communicate with different managers and staff, use critical thinking, show independence in my actions, and know where my resources were located.
As a new nurse I improved my assessment skills, learned to monitor trending vital signs, gained critical thinking, improved my communication skills with medical staff, learned to advocate for patients, and improved upon my skill sets.
