My name is Wenceslaus Claire, and I am a registered professional civil engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) with registration number 5957 in Tanzania. I completed my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (D.I.T) in Tanzania, where I gained valuable knowledge and experience in planning, designing, and managing various types of infrastructure projects.
After completing my degree, I began my career as a project engineer, where I was responsible for overseeing the construction of various infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges, and airport including buildings. During my seven years in this position, I gained a wealth of experience in project supervision, quality control and quality assurance, management, budgeting, and resource allocation. I also developed strong communication and leadership skills, which allowed me to effectively coordinate with contractors, clients, and other stakeholders.
In 2022, I was appointed as the Head of Engineering section at the Tanzania National Roads Agency, where I was responsible for overseeing a team of engineers in the supervision of maintenance and rehabilitation/upgrading of projects. Further, in 2020 I was appointed as materials engineer for the supervision of rehabilitation and upgrading of airport which includes runway, taxiway, apron and fire building. This experience allowed me to further develop my technical skills, as well as my ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
In pursuit of enhancing my knowledge and skills in engineering design and management, I decided to pursue my second degree in Australia at Griffith University. Here, I have been able to expand my knowledge in planning and design, construction and management of buildings and infrastructures.
One of the highlights of my second degree has been the opportunity to gain more skills and knowledge in design of bridges and structures, using strand 7 software, research methodology, geotechnical investigation and design of foundation and retaining walls that I have been taught. This skill has proved to be very valuable in my work, allowing me to make designs, analyze data obtained from field work and provide reports with greater accuracy and efficiency.
In addition to my professional experience, I have also been actively involved in community development projects, including HIV and AIDS campaign, Environmental issues, volunteering with local organizations to promote access to clean water and basic sanitation facilities in rural areas of Tanzania. These experiences have allowed me to develop a strong sense of social responsibility and a desire to use my engineering skills to make a positive impact in my community.
Working in Australia will broad my mind carrying out detailed design work and documentation, supervising, contributing to the delivery of projects and experience as well.
Overall, my professional experience, combined with my educational achievements and community engagement, has equipped me with a diverse range of skills and perspectives that I believe would make me an asset to any organization in the civil engineering industry.
