This was a four-unit, year-long Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program designed to provide professional training and instruction in improving skills for Ministry. In the case of our class, all of the students were focused on careers as Chaplains. Two mornings a week we met in class to discuss written projects and Ministry scenarios designed to help us "think outside the box" in providing Pastoral and Spiritual Care and Counseling. The program also involved clinical work at a nearby hospital where I worked as a Chaplain Resident. I was a member of the Spiritual Services Department with responsibilities for visiting patients and electronically recording notes on the visits, meeting with other staff to determine changes in the patient's situation and how to adjust our care for them, leading Grief Support Groups and Behavior Health Support Groups, participating in the On-Call rotation for emergencies and other situations of need, assisting the Priest and Worship leaders who conducted Mass in the Hospital Chapel, and other services, as needed.
This was a four-week course entitled "Soul Companioning: Introduction to Spiritual Direction," which was designed to help student understand the basic principles of Spiritual Direction and how to develop Spiritual Direction into their Ministry of service.
