Additional Information
  • I have planned and executed an annual "In Honor of" Birthday Party blood drive for a local child who died of cancer. I communicated with the child's mother to determine theme, colors, and date of the event and got local media to come and broadcast the event. I have gotten bouncy houses and food donated. This event has been done for about 6 years now.
  • I have organized fundraisers, such as a community wide rummage and bake sale for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society as well as playing a big part in organizing the Light the Night walk while putting together a team to participate in the walk in honor of a platelet donor who passed away from cancer. I also designed and sold a T-shirt to raise funds to donate from our team. I obtained local businesses to donate food, drinks, and local entertainment for the event. I also hosted planning meetings for the event in the months before.
  • I host an annual Christmas Eve Pancake Breakfast at LifeSouth to show appreciation to the blood donors. The donors were allowed to bring friends and family. Last year, I changed it to honor a donor who passed away. His birthday is on Dec. 24 and he and his family always attended the breakfast. The family got a special invitation and I had a special banner made with the donor's picture on it.
  • I have planned the annual "On the Air" blood drive which is a 12 hours blood drive with WTVY News 4 and a local radio station where they compete for the most donors. This is a very successful blood drive that has been going on for 10+ years at this point. In organizing this event, I get several local restaurants to donate food, drink, desserts, and gift certificates and I make sure they are mentioned throughout the day, on the air. I also organizing the staffing schedules, the setup, and the decorations while still performing my supervisor and tech responsibilities.
  • I decorate the donor center, which is a very large room with lots of empty space to fill, for every major holiday on usually a $30 budget. That has often required a lot of creativity and making my own props out of things we already have.
  • I hosted a bone marrow drive to get people to join the registry to help a local man who was well known in the community.
  • I created a Halloween themed room for donors to walk through.
  • I've made decorations into area's to be used for photo backgrounds. For Easter, I made a photo background and invited donors to bring their families to have a photo taken that I had printed and sent to them.
  • I recently made a Casino theme in the donor center with no budget. I made giant dice and playing cards from cardboard boxes and construction paper.
