(1) Fourteen years experience as a Pediatric nurse at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Francisco. During those years I developed very effective interpersonal and negotiating skills with the Pediatric population and their families. I acted as a relief charge nurse frequently during my 14 years which involved working with different personalities and wants of the nurses and patients for which I was responsible.I also delegated different assignments to the nurses in my role as charge nurse. I was willing to work overtime when the Pediatric unit was understaffed, despite working night shifts. I became proficient in caring for the Pediatric oncology population: using sterile technique when administering chemotherapy, giving blood transfusions, and working with and caring for different central lines-Broviac and Hickman catheters, Portacaths. I also did blood draws as ordered on the Pediatric patients. I had no problems in assisting the Pediatric physicians with septic workups, lumbar punctures and other needed tests. When a PICU was opened in the department I willing trained to become a PICU nurse also. In that role I cared for intubated patients, various central lines such as arterial lines and internal jugular lines. I also cared for post-op cardiac surgery patients where at the end of my shift I removal of arterial lines, administered lasix in preparation for the removal of urinary catheters then helping the patient ambulate as per the physicians orders. I was a preceptor for new hires plus I cross trained to worked in the NICU.
(2) I am presently working as a registered advice nurse at the Vallejo AACC for the past 11 1/2 years. I have learned to become a whole different type of nurse by using all my assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills over the phone. Over the course of my 11 1/2 years, I have received yearly quality kudos for customer service and in achieving and maintaining quality performance goals. I am dedicated to providing quality and preventive care. I have excellent organizational skills and am good with multitasking as this is very important in the role of an advice nurse. Being a patient advocate is very important to me which I find can be achieved through working in conjunction with Northern California Kaiser's facility support staff, RN's, Call Center RN managers and Physicians.
