A lot of companies outsource their consultants, so finding a job with an actual firm can be tough. However, with the right tools and experience, and with a bit of perseverance, you can find a full-time management consulting job with a reputable firm.
The path to a management consulting firm job is not going to be easy. If you want to know how you can get a management consulting firm job, prepare to put in a significant amount of time, earn real-world experience, and obtain an MBA. According to efinancialcareers, the path to a consulting job looks something like this:
• Obtain a position with a reputable firm as a business analyst directly after obtaining your bachelor's degree.
• Once you've gained real-world experience, either talk to the firm's head about a direct-to-associate path. If the firm does not offer that, you will need to go back to school for your MBA.
• Once you've obtained your MBA, rejoin a firm as an associate. If you're successful, you will go on to become Engagement Manager. Eventually, the firm may offer you the position of Associate Partner.
If you can prove yourself a worthy potential partner, you will likely make Partner. If and when that happens, congratulations—you have successfully accomplished your career goals!
