At Roger Williams University I work in the mailroom for about 6 hours a week.
Here I am learning the important things about insurance. I do not do much, other than scan and answer phones, but it is such a great experience for me to have since insurance is not taught. I just started back in June and will continue to work there. Over the summer I work about 12 hours a week. Greeted visitors and customers upon arrival, offered assistance, and answered questions to build rapport and retention.
I have been working at Dunkin' since I was 14 years old. Serving customers and learning a great work ethic. I would say that when I am home from school I work 18-20 hours a week.
- A volunteer for Special Olympics: I was chosen to be a partner with someone who has intellectual disabilities in my first year of participating. I absolutely loved it and continued to do it during my junior and senior years as well. I helped set up courses and also participated in games. The main goal in my eyes was to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to become productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.
- A volunteer for youth lacrosse: During my high school years, I was a lacrosse coach for the youth. It was 4 hours a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I would show the young kids how to play the game properly, along with the basics of lacrosse.
- Volunteer for Make a Wish Foundation: The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in the United States that helps fulfill the wishes of children with critical illnesses. Over the years, the Make a Wish Foundation has had a huge impact on me. A friend and I began this journey at the start of our junior year. We collected warm clothing across our towns, we did this by posting it out on social media, making drop-out boxes, and overall making it known that we were looking for clothes to donate. We raised over 200 pages within a month and a half.
- Volunteer at Bread & Roses: Bread & Roses is a helpful organization that fights the power of hunger. I have been participating for the past 4 years, and couldn't ask for anything more than to see the people who need comfort the most with smiles on their faces. My position is to mostly serve the homeless and clean up after them as well. I have been able to create a bond with this completely different world, that the middle and upper-class don't really acknowledge.
- In my senior year of high school, a friend and I decided that it would be right to create a culture club. What I mean by culture club is the ability to learn about all different types of cultures that we really did not get the chance to learn about in high school. We had about 25-30 classmates join our club and it was a great experience.
