As a Service Engineer I - Virtualization, my role is predominately designing and implementing OneNeck's multi-site ReliaCloud VMware ESXi based public, private and hybrid cloud solutions for a wide variety of customers. The public clouds run on Cisco UCS hardware running VMware ESXi 5.5 with a VMware vCloud Director interface. For private clouds I design and implement dedicated ESXi on Cisco UCS environments for those customers who have constraints or otherwise need to run in a dedicated environment. A third type of cloud I implement are hybrid which as a mix of a public or private clouds with dedicated UCS blades for larger servers such a databases and so on. All of these require me to think outside the box, working with no supervision, and meet deadlines for the entire life-cycle of the project.
Beside the ReliaCloud solutions I am also responsible for designing and implementing solutions to the legacy private clouds for those customers who has not yet moved to the ReliaCloud. Some of these environments have disaster recovery running VMware Site Recovery Manager.
On top of these roles, I am also part of team of engineers who looks at how we will improve our environments including automation and introducing new technologies that can change how OneNeck does business.
Currently I am the Lead Engineer for VMware / UCS design and implementation of the City of Minneapolis hybrid cloud. This mid-sized environment running on ESXi 5.5 with three different sites with two different disaster recovery solutions running VMware Site Recovery Manager 5.8 and EMC Recover Point.
Installed, maintained and supported virtual server environments and related platforms. Performed problem determination and resolution. Troubleshooting all system errors and failures with minimal supervision. Worked with vendors to achieve defect resolution. Implemented virtual host patches as required. Performed virtualization platform upgrades, capacity planning, and performance analysis. Analyzed and modified virtualization system parameters in order to configure operation systems and their components. Developed, tested, and implemented test plans to verify installation, upgrades or repairs, including contingency plans.
Worked with fellow virtualization resources to learn technologies and how to best implement them to achieve the operations goals.
Actively worked with project managers to achieve the goals of their projects and provide recommendations and suggest changes in order for projects to succeed.
Created several documents, processes and procedures to assist
