Responsible for leading an agency-wide national team of approximately 15 Intern Program Coordinators located at eight NASA centers. NASA hires approximately 2,000 interns with up to 20 unique funding sources each year through this program.

  • Providing ongoing direction and leadership for program operations.
  • Managing and overseeing the daily operations, developing communications, providing guidance to team members, and creating a variety of reports for NASA and USRA.
  • Providing multiple reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to both NASA and USRA Leadership Teams. Creating reports in Excel and utilizing Venngage software to develop these into presentations.
  • Training new Coordinators on the processes associated with each of the three sessions offered annually such as, hiring interns, providing professional development, and program exit procedures.
  • Supporting Center Leads and Coordinators with guidance and support for transition, implementation and adherence to policy.
  • Holding weekly meetings with individual Coordinators to discuss issues they may be experiencing.
  • Collaborating with USRA leadership and NASA to develop communications and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Developed initial groundwork needed to establish the new agency-wide NASA Internship program:

  • Established key relationships with individuals in the NASA internships community, including Center Leads, HQ Funding Source Managers, other contractors, and IT Representatives.
  • Developed operational policies and procedures, both baseline and best practices, in collaboration with the NASA and USRA Leadership Teams for consistent implementation across the agency.
  • Created a Coordinator Manual with baseline operational procedures to assist Coordinators with program operations.
  • Implemented processes to successfully meet milestones for initial fall 2013 and spring 2014 sessions; including selection, documentation, on-boarding, and stipend processing for more than 160 students with eight unique funding sources in the first fall and spring sessions.
  • Evaluated processes and procedures to further improve efficiencies in strategic communication, technical resources, and overall streamlining.
  • Conducted extensive research to determine appropriate Annual Performance Goals based on NASA Education Outcome Goals, including the CoSTEM Report, U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, and OMB Reporting Guidelines.
