Supervised all landscaping duties around Bowie Memorial Hospital and sister facilities. Cared for established lawns by mulching, aerating and weeding. Pruned trees, shrubs and hedges using chainsaws, pole saws and hedge pruners. Other work would include maintaining equipment, planting of trees and flowers, and plumbing, while training another employee. During the winter months the position would require indoor work on the facilties as well. Work indoors included Hospital maintenance, on call duties, and special events.
Allocated $30,000 reforestation funds to private landowners. Coordinated reforestation efforts of private lands in Cumberland County. Timber examinations and inspections of private lands. First responder to forest fires for the Cumberland County area. Fire prevention instruction to students in the elementary schools around local areas.
Data collection and data transfer of permanent research plots established by US Forest Service in 1950. Use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Global Information Systems (GIS) to locate plots. Forest inventoried 40,000 acres of Virginia State Forests. Interpreted topographical maps and aerial photos, clinometery readings. ��Forest Fire Fighter II. Completed controlled burn to promote planting beds for Loblolly Pine.
Had a GPA of 3.0. Outstanding Forestry Club member 1995. Played on the Rugby team for Virginia Tech. Co-op with Chesapeake Forest Products from 1991 through 1993.
