Team-oriented biologist with 10 years of experience in crop breeding (rice and soybean) and plant molecular researches, and experience in proposal development, budget management and leadership.
Worked on my degree project "Nutrition profile investigation and genome-wide association mapping for agronomic and seed quality traits in early mature soybean (Glycine max) germplasm". Series of known genes and candidate genes associated with flowering time, maturity date, plant hight, seed weight and content of protein, oil, fatty acids, sugar components (sucrose, raffinose and stachyose) were identified. These results provided valuable SNP markers and target genes for soybean traits improvement breeding programs.
Lead a team working on the project of "Fine mapping a gene affecting leaf morphology, and flower and fruit development in Arabidopsis thaliana", which was funded by the Center for Excellence on Drought Tolerance Research, SDSU. Rot3 was finally identified as the causative gene of the mutant phenotypes.
Joined in the whole process of soybean breeding projects, starting with crossing, generation increasing by single seed descend method, recurrent selections, plant row selections, followed with primary and advanced yield trial. Our group released three germplasm lines and two (Roberts and Brookings) high yield and good quality soybean varieties during the past three years.
Worked on "Characterization of ACBP4 and ACBP5 in lipid metabolism in model plant Arabidopsis thaliana". Mutant and over-expression lines for each gene and double mutant lines were identified. Lipid profiles for each genotype were quantified by gas chromatogram. ACBP4 knock-out mutant line showed modification of membrane lipid composition.
Worked on project "Improvement of appearance traits of elite rice Zhenshan 97A by molecular marker-assisted selection (MAS) and QTLs analysis for heading date in rice (Oryza sativa L.) ". Zhenshan 97A, a sterile line, was widely used in development of hybrid rice in China. To meet the Asian rice market preference, the ratio of length to width and transparence of Zhenshan 97A grain were improved through MAS.
