I am a highly skilled and enthusiastic Medical Technologist, licensed by ASCP and the the State of California as A Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology.
Before coming to Hawai'i in 2002, I worked at Kern Medical Center, the trauma center for Kern County in the city of Bakersfield, for 16 years. Previous to that, experience as a Medical Technologist included a small 10 bed hospital in the city of Techachapi, CA; Torrance Memorial Hospital In Torrance CA, the area's first blood donor center, with a burn center, doing open-heart surgeries, and a base station for LA County Paramedics in the 1980's. My first employment as a Medical Technologist was with the International Seamans Clinic in San Pedro, CA, the port of Los Angeles, serving Merchant Seamen from all over the world. It was a one-woman lab, and I was responsible for all aspects of the laboratory and specimen collection. I standardized operations and wrote a procedures manual.
In 2002 I moved to Hawai'i and took a position at Clinical Laboratories of Hawai'i (CLH), at North Hawai'i Community Hospital (NHCH), Kamuela, HI. I remained at CLH for11 years, until Queen's Hospital bought NHCH. I transitioned to Diagnostics Laboratory Services, working with the team to establish a new lab under new management, for 18 months.
