Flow Cytometry operator for 20 plus years, most associated with MedLab/Cunningham Pathology. Currently performing HIV Immunophenotyping with expertise in interpretive and and technical methods. Maintains a CAP discipline of Flow Cytometry single handedly including, specimen processing,all testing and reporting of results, QA, CAP PT Surveys, all maintenance, and other pertinent records for a large clinical laboratory. 

 

Responsible for ordering and maintaining all supplies including reagents for all instruments and standing orders in a large multi-functional department( Hematology, Coagulation, Sedimentation rates, Urinalysis, Flow Cytometry, Special Hematology, and Blood Bank). 

 

 

Serves as the liasion between the Hematology Department and Medical Director regarding pathology reviews by expediting requests/slides/results for same day reporting.  

 

Performs special Hematology tests and assists where needed in technical areas. 

 

Assists the Hematology Laboratory Manager who is also the company wide Discipline Director, and other Supervisors as needed for projects such as Laboratory design for ISO Accreditation. 

 

Has completed and passed the CAP Inspection Team Member Training (SAM eligible).

Medical Technologist associated with Special Immunology and soley responsible for tests: Toxoplasma, cytomegalovirus, chlamydia, EB virus, cryptococcus, mitochondrial, smooth muscle, parietal cell,ENA (Sm/RNP), Legionella. Composed and editied procedure manuals, maintained records of CAP,CDC, and State of Alabama surveys, wrote and had published several MedLab alerts regarding new tests-description and interpretative/diagnostic use. Worked in area hospitals part-time in Clinical Chemistry and Hematology. Served as Dermatopathologist Assistant 

to Robert E. Jones,Jr., M.D. Cunningham Pathology Associates. Duties included lecture coordination for presentations which involved histopathology photography, literature/source searching of subject matter, coordination and review of case material tor slide conferences with Dermatology residents and Pathologists from the University of Alabama Hospital - Birmingham and other Jefferson County Pathologists. Performing special technical diagnostic stains for Dermatopathologic Studies such as Immunocytochemistry and Tissue Immunofluorescence. Responsible for organizing and maintaining an extensive Dermatopathologic teaching slide set used by the UAB Dermatology Resident program. Co-author of several Dermatology related published articles and a book, "Pathology of Malignant Melanoma"  

Served as Immunocytochemistry technologist and responsible for implementing and designing a lab for the first BD FacStar cytometer in the US, purchased by Cunningham Pathology Associates. Performed DNA cell/cycle analysis, leukemia/lymphoma immunophenotyping, tumor cell typing using immunoperoxidase and immunofluorescence methods. Composing procedures for the afore mentioned tests and maintaining QA. At the request of a highly respected oncologist, served as a instructor for immunocytochemistry techniques for his associates in Honduras.
