- Performs general necropsy and histology technical tasks in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), on a variety of laboratory species.
- Performs study responsibilities of necropsy and histology while assisting in the execution of non-clinical research studies including generation of all applicable documentation forms.
- Uses computer software (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office Word, and Microsoft Office Outlook) to create forms and procedures as well as maintain accurate data.
- Understands and interprets protocols and study procedures.
- Understands the validation process and supports implementation.
- Interacts with scientific staff to ensure proper study execution, including conducting pre-study specific meetings, client visits and study initiations.
- Multiple areas of specialties including but not limited to, developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART), solution preparation, lead technician responsibilities, and complex necropsies.
- Recording gross observations, weighing and freezing tissues, preparing bone marrow and blood smears, and performing clear and accurate documentation of all duties.
- Responsible for maintaining mouse rooms including cleaning cages, changing waters and health checks.
- Set up breeding pairs, tailing mice for genotyping and weaning mice from parents.
- Other duties include performing necropsies to remove mammary glands from mice, mounting glands on slides, freezing glands, administering injections and medication.
- Extracted DNA from bovine samples including blood, tissue, hair, and semen samples to study the genetics of Jonhe's disease and twinning rates in cattle.
- Experience with polymer chain reaction (PCR).
- Prepared solutions, cleaned dishes, and general laboratory upkeep.
- Trained interns and new students to extract DNA.
- Participated in daily educational programs and communicated with and assisted guests.
- Assisted in all aspects of the daily care of assigned animals including feeding, cleaning, observing, and evaluating animal conditions and behaviors.
- Provided environmental and behavioral enrichment for animals.
- Performed minor repairs and preventative maintenance as necessary; maintained clean and organized exhibits, equipment, keeper areas, and park grounds.
- Assisted Pharmacists in filling prescriptions and other tasks in pharmacy.
- Provided customer service in pharmacy area and clerk area including delivery of prescriptions.
