  • Managed a wireline truck for land and off-shore drilling platforms, with a crew of 3 operators.
  • These duties included; setting explosives in wells, running nuclear oil locating tools, setting packers for tubing strings and sealing wells with concrete and other cased hole activities.
  • In this position I worked very long hours in very dangerous environments and worked autonomously.

  • Coordinated the development of a new factory in Mexico City to produce fall protection harnesses in 4 months.  Product line was the fastest growing line in MSA fall protection history. I prepared several business cases showing the return on investment for the new production line in Mexico. I was involved in all aspects of planning for the project including space utilization, capital investment, design, testing, and human resource planning.
  • Participated in several steering teams which determine all aspects of the projects the engineering team works on during the year.
  • Utilized several financial models to determine the health of the product group, such as Return on Net Assets (RONA) and Economic Value Added (EVA).
  • Participated in a Design For Six Sigma implementation team for MSA new product development.  As a result of this team's effort, MSA has adopted DFSS into the new product development process.  All products are now designed using 6 sigma tools that show critical to quality metrics are achieved.
  • Participate with standards development by reviewing international draft standards and conducting research to determine future legislation and regulations in fall protection.

  • Responsible for developing a design center in China, I relocated with my family for an initial 3 year assignment.   
  • Responsible for hiring another large team of engineers, drafters, designers, and support staff and began training them on MSA's development and sustaining engineering processes.
  • Successfully launched the first product from the new design center in China using MSA's 3D new product development process.
  • Trained all other functions in new product development and developed processes to support development projects. 
  • During this time, I also started to become familiar with the complex approval process in China for PPE products and Instruments.

  • Promoted to engineering director for the entire design center.
  • Led all of the major product groups for MSA (air purifying respirators, supplied air respirators, head-eye-face protection, fall protection, portable gas detectors, and permanent gas detectors) gaining exposure to complex instrumentation products as high pressure air systems.
  • Responsible for design center P&L ($4 million) and internal and external spending for more than 60 engineers.
  • In 2009, the Suzhou design center was chosen to be the lead design center for 5 MSA top 20 projects.  These projects were the top initiatives in engineering for the company globally.  All projects were successfully launched, with the products meeting the key performance targets.
  • Implemented DFSS and coordinated the training of all key associates in level 1 and level 2 training.
  • Participated on several global teams to address global document storage, global ERP part number creation and maintenance.
  • Translated western practices of Voice of Customer gathering to understand the cultural shifts necessary to complete customer research in China.
