Accomplishments/Areas of Expertise
  • Downtown Planning - Played key role in three year planning process with the Glencoe Plan Commission and community branded as the Downtown TuneUp. The product of the endeavor - The Downtown Plan - was adopted unanimously by the Village Board in 2016 providing short and long term recommendations for land use regarding public and private property
  • Economic Development - Served as lead Village staff representative on the development team for the proposed $34 million, 36,000 square foot Writers Theatre. A special use permit was approved by the Village Board in 2013 allowing for construction and development of the theatre designed by Jeanne Gang, Principal of Studio Gang Architects. In February 2016, the award-winning, LEED-Gold theatre opened its doors and now welcomes 60,000 visitors to its Downtown Glencoe location each year
  • Development of New Land Use Ordinances - Member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team in Glencoe that developed new ordinances regulating: (1) subdivision & consolidation; (2) impervious surfaces; (3) development on steep slopes; (4) downtown planning; and (5) design review. Played a key role in developing staff-led, innovative regulations, which were all adopted unanimously by the Village Board
  • Historic Preservation/Architecture - Led multi-year effort to identify, research, and catalogue Glencoe structures of historic and architectural significance with the aid of an architectural historian and members of the Historic Preservation Commission. The culmination of work was showcased on the Village Website as an interactive Story-Map of 300+ structures used for educational, community building, and preservation purposes
  • Urban Design - Worked with the Glencoe Plan Commission to overhaul the Village’s 1976 design guidelines for its business districts and to streamline the review process for design review applications. Additionally, contributed to the design of special streetscape treatments as a member of the Tudor Court Stakeholder Focus Group for an emerging arts corridor in Downtown Glencoe. The design concept for Tudor Court was approved by the Village Board in 2019 and construction will commence in 2020
  • Sustainability - Led multiple sustainability initiatives in coordination with various Glencoe public bodies. Two reports with recommendations were produced in 2009 and 2013 and various special events were organized, including a “green” expo, a facilitated goal setting session, and panel discussions hosted by the Plan Commission
