After being laid off from EJ's I applied all throughout the metro. Bill Kidd(owner of A-Better) gave me a call and asked if i'd like to interview for his company. Long story short, I did and loved working there pursuing my goals to be a certified journeyman. Bills company had much to offer because they where much like EJ's as for as work with ruff ends, commercial, and ground jobs. I felt I fit in comfortably because with my expericance I could come in and get started working right away. One of the new things I learned at A- Better was about Geothermal Sytems. Before I had never seen one or knew of them. But with this company Ive learned much about them and did work on them.
Kia Harwood (owner of Interstate HVAC) was the first guy to let me in the door and start me on my path to be in the HVAC field. I was green and knew very little. Interstate was a residential company only so I started with only doing change outs. Here I learned how to build and run duck work, braze and weld with oxygen and acetylene, recover and pump down a system, tear out old units and duct work to replace with new, cut out for supply grills, hang grills, build return boxes, make transitions with duck boared, run gas and drain lines, install new equipment, hang horizontal units, down flo's, up flo's, become great at installing a condensor(including disconnect box and whip), know what tools I needed for the job, and all other basic residential change out necessities, etc.
I applied for EJ's because things were very slow at Interstate HVAC and all though and respected Kia very much for the opportunity he had given me and wanted so much to stay around because I am loyal the company I work for. Just weeks at time with out work left me with no other option to look for employment elsewhere. Mike(one of the owners of EJ's) gave me an oppportunity with his company. At EJ's not only did they do residential, they did new construction and commercial jobs as well. Here I did my first ruff end, ground job, and commercial work. Things I have never done before like build plenums and return boxes from scrap, run spiral supplies, do some service calls, read blueprints/plans, run and hang duck work for ruff ends, run copper lines, etc. Working for EJ's helped my passion, knowledge, and experiance for HVAC grow. As the seasons change work began to slow down and lay offs had to be made and thats how my time ended with EJ's. I came into work one morning and was notified that it was slow, they'd have to let me go, and it was ok to check back with them in the spring time.
At Capitol Hill I earned my High School Diploma
At OKCCC I completed some classes to pursue my dreams and goals in entrepeneurship. Having my only son after my first semester, I was no longer attended school and started working two jobs to provide for my family.
Prior to HVAC work I did miscellaneous work such as fast food, warehouse, and sales. Even before being able to work at young age hiring companies like fast food, I worked for my youth paster who was also a janitor at the high school I was attending, I would work for him. Helping vacuum classrooms and mopping hallways. Then reaching the legal age to work I started at Taco Bell serving orders out quickly and providing top quality service to any customer.
