With over four years of project engineering experience and a design team lead, I've moved on to learn and deliver in the application/estimation engineering field.
Currently serving as an estimation/application engineer dedicated to providing apt solutions and precise material and labor estimates and by clearly understanding project objectives, defining scopes and determining schedules.
o Working with sales team and customers to understand customer's problem statement and providing the right solution for the application relating to conveyors – MDR, BDR, Belt Over Roller, Spiral MDR and Robotics – Pick and Place, Palletizer & De-Palletizer
o Completing preliminary engineering work as needed to quantify cost related to the proposed solution
o Generating cost estimates – labor, hardware, service, etc. for turnkey as well as non-integration projects
o Developing proposal documentation which includes technical specifications, implementation plans, customer expectations
• Managed Multiple Projects/Project Execution
o Led a design team of five engineers and worked cross-division in coordinating chute manufacturing and logistics all the way through installation by the meeting project schedules
o Studied budget for both labor and material and ensured awareness and performed to the budget
o Monitored financial forecast of projects; continuously compared against the original budget and identified overage/underage to management
o Led resources through motivation and energization for efficient utilization to meet changeling schedules and intricate solutions
o Trained entry-level engineers on chute designs, order entry, generating BOM and prepared them to handle projects on their own
o Understood and helped define schedule on a project level to breakdown for more detailed levels, example creating PSR
o Worked closely with strategic sourcing for potential vendor selection and provide technical support to selected vendors
• Supported Concepting-Estimation and Sales Support Teams
o Supported these teams to close deals on more than half a dozen of complex chute designs through concept designs, simulations, mock-up build outs, acceptance tests.
o Provided proposal delivery team with the required information related to these designs for a solid proposal
o Preparing a written estimate for engineering labor and material costs of the customized chute for systems applications
o Collaborating with technical teams from customer's end to establish design specifications and processes for deployment of the better end product in shorter lead time
• Used virtual software tools to help prove concepts and optimize the design
o Utilized Demo3D software to apply physics for specific designs including chutes and inductions and to study and analyze the product handling in a virtual emulation prior to any actual test
Creating various test scenarios for multiple chute concepts for design optimization
Using Demo3D to perform RCA by replicating issues faced on live systems
• Product Design & Layout Design
o Worked with project teams to prepare design requirements for simple to complicated chutes. Some are listed below:
Chute designs inlet/outlet – Single Inlet Single Outlet, Single Inlet Multiple Outlets, Multiple Inlets Single Outlet. Pneumatic Chutes for multiple entries, exist and accumulation
Shipping chutes – Handing a wide spectrum of packages -sizes, weights, and material types. Gaylord chutes, Bag Chutes, Multiple Receptacle/Convertible Chutes – Bag/Gaylord chutes, Fluid Load chutes (directly on to truck loader), Spiral Chutes
Packing Chutes – Handling a wide range of products - Apparels, Fragile products (Gentle Handling Chute), Shoeboxes (FIFO)
o Performed analysis of customer products to be handled – parcels, totes, apparels, fragile items, shoe boxes, jiffy bags, polybags, etc.
o Defined constraints of the system, customer and/or product that may impact risk level for design
o Collaborated with vendors/suppliers for design development within budget time and cost
o Designed loop sorter layout model using AutoCAD 2018 by understanding and implementing design rules
o Created installation drawing of various mechanical and electrical components
• Project Execution
o Created project-specific sales orders and purchase orders within ERP in a timely manner to maintain high-level KPI
o Support the onsite installation team on how the design is to be erected
o Provided technical information and working with Lifecycle Support Services to create maintenance manuals
o Troubleshooting issues that develop onsite with the install/commissioning teams
o Periodic quality audit to check installation progress and quality
o Properly store information for the record in the following systems: PDM, Oracle, SharePoint, Dashboard
• Liaison International Loop Sorter Project Opportunities
o Co-coordinated with Sourcing, C&E, and Engineering teams by closing gaps to establish a process
o Identifying process improvement opportunities and working with the above teams to optimize cost and working towards providing competitive loop sorter project quotes
o Coached engineering teams in India and Mexico on the high-speed loop sorter product line
• Taught a class of 52 sophomores and juniors Introduction to Engineering Design in Mechanical engineering department for two semesters.
• Taught a class of 16 senior undergraduate students for the Control Systems course by using LabVIEW and PLC (Direct LOGIC 205) in a comprehensive package which included practical problem solving, practical and theory question paper framing and finally grading them.
