While I was in the Navy I was in charge of a 6 man dive team. While in charge we had more than 400 hours of diving with no incidents or accidents. As a Mud Engineer on Trinidad 137 I saved Murphy Oil over $35,000 in lost mud costs as well as reducing NPT by 20%. While drilling a well for Marathon Oil Company I was able to save them $55,000 in lost mud costs and wasted chemical cost.
My role as a Drilling Fluid Specialist is to maintain Drilling Fluid properties as per the operators specs. Other responsibilities included tracking and maintaining well costs and inventory. Also working closely with MWD hands as well as the Directional Drillers.
As a Choke Operator my primary responsibility was to ensure proper installation and maintenance of all drilling chokes including super-chokes and auto-chokes. Also operating chokes when they were being used for Under-balanced or Managed Pressure drilling applications. During my time as a Choke Operator I drilled 19 UBD wells. 12 HTHP wells.
My job duties included supervising a team of six workers that would conduct hydrostatic testing of all drilling hoses (i.e. Kelly hose, choke and kill hoses mud pump hoses and BOP hoses). Also visual inspection of the hoses as well as data acquisition. Other responsibilities included ensuring proper reports were made and delivered in a timely manner.
As a Navy Diver my primary job was conducting underwater demolition operations as well as salvage and search and rescue missions. While diving I received extensive training in physics as well as chemistry. Also I was responsible for a four man diving team that dove over 400 hours without one incident.
Basic Mud school consisted of advanced math as well as advanced chemistry courses. Basic drilling concept courses and solids control and solids removal.
Learned properwell intervention techniques as well as how to control and how to kill a well.
Learned the basic principles of under-balanced drilling and managed pressure drilling.
