SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT.....................August 2012 -April 2013 Thermal Electric Cell Phone Charger Related Projects: Thermal Behavior of Steady State Electrical Wire: Analyzed to model thermal behavior for wiring harness in automobiles.
An analytical model was developed using Mathcad software along with a computational model developed using CFD computer software ANSYS.
These were then compared and validated with experimentation.
Microprocessor Cooling: With microprocessor cooling loads increasing and essential for a proper operation with the space limited design in computers; the combination of a heat sink and thermoelectric cooler were analyzed.
Modeling was done combining analytical calculations and CFD simulation to verify design.
Double Pipe and Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger: Analyzed to validate heat exchanger effectiveness, in and out temperatures, temperature distribution, and total rate of heat transfer validating analytical modeling done with Mathcad software along with CFD computational modeling using ANSYS with experimentation.
Transmission Design Using Romax Software: Designed a manual transmission which had an output shaft angular velocity of 25%,50%,75% of the input shaft angular velocity in the same direction and 25% of the input shaft angular velocity in the reverse direction.
Geometry was developed analytically with given constraints and was inputted into Romax software.
The transmission was designed for 110 horsepower and was required to last 1000 hours in each gear.
Through design of changing the number of teeth, pitch, tooth thickness, gear thickness, shaft thickness and length, the diameters of the gears, and other parameters such that the transmission met the requirements while not being over or under designed such as to meet a weight constraint.
Pencil Sorter: A machine was designed that inputted sharpened pencils in random orientation and outputted the pencils all in the same orientation in a vertical cup.
The machine was designed to be hands free from input to output using a hopper design and a small electric motor along with a curved surface that allowed orientation of the pencils.
Matlab Computer Project: Developed a computer program using Matlab software to produce the kinematics of a crank slider mechanism and four-bar mechanism.
For a given constant or dynamic input angular velocity the program was then used to produce the translational and rotational velocities and accelerations of the mechanism at various points throughout the entire cycle.
