Climate Suffrage Project (Seoul, Korea) 04/2020-06/2021
- To encourage the National Assembly to introduce 2050 net-zero bill.
- Provided strategic communication guidance in publishing a report, “Climate Change Regulation and Its Impact on South Korea’s Export” in collaboration with Ernst & Young, consulting firm.
- Amplified the campaign’s impact in the traditional media by utilizing editorials from external organizations including UK’s Climate Change Committee.
- Co-led sea-level rise scenario project in collaboration with GIS team, external atmospheric expert, and media.
- Result: The National Assembly has passed a bill mandating over a 35 percent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 to eventually achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
Green Mobility Project (Global) 09/2018-02/2021
- Objective: To encourage Clairedai Motor Company to transition to 100% electric vehicles
- l Designed and participated in focus group interviews of automotive industry experts and general public
- l Provided strategic media guidance on the publishing of report on policy incentives for electric vehicles
- l Planned and executed national advertisement in newspaper targeting the company
- l Developed the overall campaign communication strategy and tactics
- l Result: Received project funding (KRW 200 million) from Tara European Climate Foundation
Climate Change Study Group for Media (Seoul, Korea) - Project Lead 07/2020-10/2020
- l Designed and ran a study group of 15 domestic and international journalists for 7 weeks, bi-weekly
- l Recruited speakers from academia, finance, and non-profit sectors
- l Built and maintained a robust network of journalists for the organization, which resulted in an increase in in-depth reports on campaign issues
Supermarket Plastics Project (Seoul, Korea) 10/2019-04/2020
- Objective: Identification and reduction of the distributors’ use of single-use plastics
- Conducted a survey and published a report on the domestic supermarket chains’ use of single-use plastic packaging
- Analyzed the survey results and publicized them through social media hashtag (#Yongginae) challenge
- Result: In June 2020, Lotte Mart, 2nd biggest supermarket in Korea, declared a 50 percent reduction of single-use plastic packaging by 2025
UN Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction, Marine Protected Area Campaign (Global) - Project Lead 05/2019-04/2020
- Objective: To induce Korean government’s support in designation of Marine Protected Area (MPA) at the UN
- Led a project team of six people from four departments
- Contributed to the formation of a private consultative body between maritime NGOs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries as its founding member
- Organized educational, participatory civic events to increase public awareness on MPA
- Created more than 150 media reports in photo-ops, editorials, and interviews
- Result: The Korean government officially declared its support for MPA in May 2021
Overseas Coal Financing Project (Seoul, Korea) 07/2018-06/2019
- Objective: To stop state-backed public development banks’ investment in overseas coal power plants
- Created exclusive new report on the coal power plant corruption in close collaboration with local communities of Vietnam and Korean media
- Supported in provision of audit materials provided to MPs during the National Assembly audit of state-run banks
- Result: In May 2021, President Moon Jae-in vowed to end all new financing for overseas coal projects
