I began the journey of working on the maintenance side of the freight industry, at an early age of 19 years old. Through the years I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to keep the wheels moving and get the freight delivered.   • Worked closely with Tractor shop Lead man, and the Trailer shop Lead man to ensure that each assignment was finished ahead of its deadline.
  • Established and enforced clear safety policies to protect workers from injury, through weekly safety meetings, and demonstrating good safety practices myself by following safety rules that apply.- i.e. Safety Glasses, proper uniform, steel toed boots etc.
  • Eliminated knowledge gaps by managing continuous training, weekly Safety Meetings, and mentoring strategies for new and junior personnel. While being in all ways trainable myself, learning from our senior techs. No one is above learning new things.

Either way, the freight needs to move, and it needs to move now.

  • This is where it started for me at Saia. Working in the pit.
  • Kept shop area neat and clean by removing debris and safely disposing of used oil, coolant, used parts, etc.
  • Efficiently performed all of Saia's Pm's, logging all defects, to be repaired at a later time.
  • Checked all fluids and maintenance-related parts and topped off or replaced as needed, according to Saia's scheduled PM intervals.

  • Answered questions regarding vehicle maintenance and recommended necessary repair work to keep vehicles operating properly.

  • During this time, Saia didn't use very many outside vendors for repairs. My prior knowledge in the construction field helped, as I was able to perform various repairs around the shop. i.e. plumbing repairs, small electrical repairs, heater repairs, window repairs, and shop equipment and tool repairs. Things of this nature weren't exactly in the job description, but I have always from the beginning helped out in any way that I was able.
