I have attended the SAW Program at Yale New Haven Hospital, where I am currently employed. The SAW Program stands for School At Work. This course was for seven months during working hours. This program consists of English, Vocabulary, and Math.
I also received a certificate for a Great Catch. This is when you have done something to keep the Patients safe. There was a patient who had wondered onto our Unit and I questioned the Patient as to where he belonged. He was a little confused and had wondered off his Unit and ended up on mine. I called patient information to find out where this patient belonged and returned the patient back to his Unit unharmed.
I answer the phones, I answer the Call Bell when patients call out to the front desk, I order supplies, I make up charts for patients being admitted to the unit. When patients are discharged, I break down the charts and set up transportation when needed. I fax information over to different agencies depending on where the patient is being discharged to. I help the Patient Care Associates when they are tied up with a patient and there is another patient requesting water, a blanket, have their food warmed up, or whatever it is that they need and it doesn't require certification.
I collected and scanned in specimens received from patients within the Hospital or outside of the Hospital. Problem solved, faxed, answer incoming calls, xeroxing, aliquot and spin specimens and loaded specimens on the machines that ran the tests.
I worked for the Resource Pool and was assigned to a different floor daily where they didn't have a Business Associate. I answered the phones, notified the Nurses and Patient Care Associates when a Patient is requesting medicines or have to go to the bathroom, or anything else the patient might need. I notified the Doctors when a patient was admitted on the floor and I set up transportation for patients being discharged. I put together charts for patients being admitted and broke down the charts when the patients were discharged. I ordered supplies. I notified Bed Management when a room needed to be cleaned after the patient was discharged. I also did whatever I could for the patients that didn't require certification.
I attended Stone Academy to continue my studies in Shorthand, Speedwriting, and typing. I studied Court Reporting for one year and built up my speed to 125 wpm.
