Area Assistant Manager for Construction assigned to the Georgia Department of Transportation District 2 Area 4 Office located in Augusta Georgia.
Assist Area Manager assigned with construction management of the departments construction and maintenance projects for the counties of Columbia, Richmond, Lincon, Wilkes, McDuffie and Warren Counties. These construction projects funded by the Federal and State Governments and involve Federal, State and Off System roadway construction and maintenance of roadways in the assigned area.
Duties include supervision of seven Department of Transportation employees as well as twelve employees employed by three companies contracted with the department. These employees are Construction Project managers and Construction Inspectors as well as clerical employees. I work with the Area Manager to assign the proper individuals to Construction projects. I am the first line employee that the personel contact when there are questions concerning their assigned projects. I then if necessary confer with the Area Manager my immediate supervisor. I develop and submit employee evaluations yearly. I review all individual evaluations with the employee and then submit to my immediate supervisor.
Review project plans and documentations for future construction projects. Attend preconstruction meetings before the start of construction projects and all other meetings during the life of projects. Once complete involved with final inspections, close out and final acceptance of all projects.
Work with assigned department Project Managers and Contractors to resolve conflicts that may arise. Perform the necessary estimates and schedules when there is a need for change orders to the contracts of the projects.
Approve monthly pay vouchers. Verify that all Federal and State requirements are met involving projects that are funded by the federal and state agencies Answer questions involving the State Specifications, plans and standards that apply to each project.
Attend meetings with the local politicians and public involving the various construction projects. Answer the various questions and concerns of the public when calls are made to the area office such as drive encroachment, right of way location, flooding from right of way, etc.
Address Personnel issues such schedule of work, concerns about work ethics, planning with employees future expectations that will be required of them during their future career and Discipline measures including suspension and termination when necessary. I perform coaching sessions with employees concerning their work. I maintain work records on all employees.
I started my carer in the Material and Testing Lab with the department and then moved to the construction management division. I started as an inspector and moved as far as senior construction inspector.
As and inspector I worked for assigned Project managed inspecting work performed by approved contractors of roadway and bridge construction. I was responsible to see that construction activities were met following the Departments Standard Specifications, Plans and Project Contract. I was responsible for measurement and calculation of work performed as well as monthly payment vouchers. Performed Labor Interviews, and reviewed monthly payrolls for accuracy so that proper federal and State guidelines would be met.
I managed projects before being assigned as a project manager. I advanced to Construction Manager one and then Construction Manager two which advanced my responsibilities to Project Management.
I have managed projects in cost from ome million to 56 million dollars. The work I have either been and inspector or manager covers all roadway activities including bridge, roadway grading, asphalt drainage and various wall construction.

Georgia Department of Transportation required yearly training, Federal Documents, Asphalt Construction, Bridge Construction, Project Management, Storm Water, Project Documentation, Environmental Training.
