My career in the industry started in 1989 in a dealership using Sikkens. I started by using 3+1, Autobase, and Autocryl. I met Scott Kirkwood, Steve Bingham,Jeff Baker and Mr. Erwin Ocasio. These gentlemen inspired me to one day work for AkzoNobel, more precisely a TC for AkzoNobel. I painted Sikkens for seventeen years before being hired as a Technical Rep in 2005. In 2011 I took the position as account manager for the caliber team under Mr. Kevin Byrd. My career excelled at that time putting my in more high level situations with a high level customer. I am able to deal with all levels of the end user from technicians and office personal to vice presidents. The training I have received has been a great investment and the end user has benefited. I have also made investments to better prepare myself as a leader of our team. I enrolled myself in Discover Leadership Training, this program was initiated by Caliber at the time. This has been one of the best career decisions I have made for myself yet. This helped align me with our customers culture and core principles.
Currently as an Account manager for the Caliber team under Mr. Tony Mahon our core principles are:
1. Health and Safety: Top priority for AkzoNobel and our customer Caliber Collision- I have embraced this culture and train to it. It is a topic on my daily calls and I participate in all possible Caliber weekly Safety meetings. This is a focus and I start all presentations and meetings with safety first. I refer to our STAR program.
2. Quality: Consistent and ongoing process and product training- During installations I am able to train technicians how our product should look like and perform like when used correctly. I am able to help maintain this standard at our existing customer locations by conducting Painter Assessments, Prime Times, Principles of Downdraft, Professional Painter Training (6H), and other training modules. Scheduling technicians to attend training at our CRIC once a year.
3. Efficiency: I train to SOPs on all AkzoNobel products, I train to all Caliber SOPs. This helps keep a standard in place. Having our customer understand the importance of following the process and duplicating the results. Informing the customer about their opportunities to improve their business and getting them the right support for that issue. I train all personal on correct equipment needed for each part of the repair process.
4. Profitability: Paint Budget Tool- training with all levels of the business of the goal to reach a 67% Paint GP margin. Using tools to monitor spending of liquid and allied products. Training on ordering of products and balancing inventory. Application training is also included if calibration is needed per location.
