Generally speaking, you need an MBA in order to land a consulting job of any kind, but every once in a while, a firm will overlook a candidate's lack of education and offer him or her the role of associate. If you want to know how you can get a big 4 consulting job if you don't have an MBA, know that the going is bound to be tough, but it won't be impossible.
MBA Crystal Ball contributing writer Sameer Kamat has some great insight into how to break into the elusive world of consulting without the normally prerequisite MBA. His strategy, as it turns out, is not all that different than the standard job search strategy.
First and foremost, learn everything and anything that you can about the industry. You need to do this before you can even make an informed decision about which firms for to apply.
Next, understand why you want the job and why you make the perfect candidate for the position. Without knowing these two things, you will have some difficult time convincing hiring managers to meet with you much less offer you the position.
Finally, PREPARE, and apply to firms with which you will be a great fit. When it comes down to selecting the perfect candidate, partners will look for fit over all else, so make sure that you understand WHY you think you're a great fit for firm and that you are able to convey that to partners.
