While employed at (FUF) Friends of the Urban Forest a non'profit organization for youth 15-17. I would show up early everyday around 9:00 on Tuesday through Saturday for 7 hours a day to help get people grouped up, stretch, put out the breakfast and tools as a morning routine. After the morning routine I would help put together groups of 3-5 people. After the groups were figured out we would pass out maps of the city which ever one we were in at the time and split them based on the spacing of the jobs site because the vehicles were limited. we would work until 12 or 1 o'clock trimming, watering, or replacing trees around the city. We would plant side walk gardens and trees on different days as to maximize the work load for each day. While at a tree care job site I would teach the other people in the groups that I would be leading at the time how to properly trim certain types of trees, fix their roots and how to check if any major changes needed to happen like replacing the tree or getting rid of it completely changing the hardware on the tree because the trees we would plant and take care of were only a couple years old. At a tree planting site I would show my group members how to use the equipment safely, responsibly and how to clean the tools. At a sidewalk garden planting I would show my group members how to space out certain types of plants or which soil to use. The equipment we would use included a steel post pounder, reach-poll pruner, mini hand saws, lopping sheers, pole saws, fruit tree trimmers, cleaning alcohol spray. After it reaches 12 or 1 for lunch time we would then go to a park set up a table put out food and either go back to the boys and girls club and the day is over or go to the (FUF) headquarters to discuss and set up a plan for a project thats coming up.
During my time working as a house keeper/custodian for AirBnB I was working with my grandmother and she would provide transportation and also help me clean the houses. We worked monday through friday during the summer or any major school break. We would start our work day hours at 7:00am and end at 3:00pm this gave us an extra time about 2 hours in total for traveling in between all the houses for the day. For lunch we would either pick up lunch at anystore or fast food restaurant or pack lunches before the day started so we could spend less time running in between houses. We would travel to the first house and be there at 7:00 and finish around 9:00 usually spending 2 hours at each house. In order to sufficiently go throughout the day with as little hiccups as possible Our employer would send us the schedule or house/job site as a list through text message or email. The materials we used were basic house cleaning tools that each house should have but just in case they didn't want us to use them or they didn't have any we were required to have the cleaning supplies on hand fully stocked at the start of each work day. These items consisted of: Windex, disposable gloves, bucket, mop, disposable rags, paper towels, dish soap, duster, 2 sponges, trash bags, broom, spot cleaner vacuum. we restocked supplies whenever necessary. Using these materials we would Dust, vacuum, sweep, clean dishes (if any), clean windows, mop floors. Then we would take pictures of the finished product and send them to the house owners if they were not present during the cleaning. The house owners would contact our employer at AirBnB and notify them that their house was cleaned to their liking and or standards and our day would be done after completing about 3 houses daily on average.
As a hired construction assistant I mean I was recommended to and hired by other professional construction contractors who already had an official construction job. During my time as hired help for construction I started out by helping some construction worker build and extra unit and refurbish our cabin in clear lake county. Here I only unloaded supplies, sawed different types of wooden planks, nailed up boards, screwed in shingles, I unloaded fiberglass insulation, unloaded all my employers tools. After that opportunity and the way I carried myself around the construction workers one of them asked my grandmother if I could help him out on a different job because he could use my extra hands and I was already taught by him how to use my safety gear, the rules of the construction yard and some basics on the 14 year old friendly tools. I spent a solid year every three weeks or so depending on how big or small the job was. My day started waking up at 6:00 if I had a job to go to that fir into my school schedule at the time. Preparing my PPE equipment at home or in the car on the way to the site. Since I was 14 at the time and only an assistant my employers legally could not let me be in any type of danger which is why I only helped fill positions such as sawing different wooden planks of all sizes with a hand saw, holding up and nailing boards, unloading fiber glass, unloading nails, screws, whatever the construction workers needed at the time I would get it. This lasted for about 5 jobs 2 of which were building extra rooms to a house in San Francisco, and the last three were demolishing and rebuilding small cabins in country rural areas one of them being my own families cabin.
When I turned 18 I ended up with no place to stay, no money to my name and no job to be able to support myself. I am urgently looking for any job I am eligible for to be able to get my own place to stay, pay the bills, and feed myself. I have been moving around from temporary place to temporary place because the homeless shelter and youth programs wont accept me because they are either full, trying to stay safe due to the recent virus outbreak or there are other people with even more dire situations than mine. All of this should not affect my work schedule if I am able to find a job. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me out so my situation doesn't end up worsening because I am running out of time and options.
