Experience
Team Leader & Chief Engineer08/2020 to 05/2021Ucla HealthManhattan Beach , CA
  • Lead the design & fabrication of multiple revisions of a Screw-Tube-Die Injection Extrusion and Spooling system prototype that utilizes thermoplastic waste from FDM 3D printers and is reformed into a filament roll ready for printing.
  • Designed multiple revisions of the the entirety of the extrusion, spooling, and driving subsystems through the use of industry standards, analytical thermodynamic & heat transfer calculations, analytical calculations of mechanical dynamics, 3D CAD designing with DS Solidworks, FEA validation & analysis with ANSYS, and machinist manufacturing suggestions. Created prototype visual renders with DS Solidworks Visualize.
  • Lead the manufacturing of team fabricated components. 3D printed designed components with FDM printers using various thermoplastics. Utilized CO2 laser cutters to create acrylic enclosures and wooden baseboards. Welded extruder tube with extruder barrel plate using team designed manufacturing jigs. Assembled the enclosure, soldered and wired system motors, sensors, PCB's, and controllers, wired the extrusion heating system that utilizes AC power, solid state relays, and fuses.
  • Lead the assembly of system, subsystem, and components in DS Solidworks to verify tolerancing and interference clearances. Co-lead the development of system component engineering drawings. Co-wrote system code in Arduino to control system motors, fans, sensors, controllers, LCDs, and mapped potentiometer values to manually control system equipment.
Owner & Chief Engineer 05/2019 to 01/2021Bastian Material HandlingColumbus , OH
  • Owner and sole engineer of Electric Skateboarding Company that designs, develops, builds, manufacturers, selects off the shelf components, and sells personalized electric skateboards.
  • Designer of electric skateboards through utilization of Autodesk Fusion 360 and DS Solidworks to design battery system & motor controller enclosures, brackets and mounts, and product renders.
  • Manufacturer of battery and motor controller systems. Creation and wiring of Li-Po/Li-Ion battery technologies and installing BMS systems for 10S systems. Selection of motor controller ESC to operate with required motor(s). Requires soldering of SMT and THT components.
  • Manufacturer of battery system & motor controller enclosures. Requires selection of thermoplastic material for FDM 3D printing. Enclosure designs are sliced with Cura Ultimaker to prepare for 3D printing process.
Student Researcher12/2017 to 05/2019Phoenix College ASAP STEM FoundationCity , STATE
  • Researched the relationships between energy transfer in electric vehicles to determine variables impacting regeneration of applied electrical energy in electric vehicles. Studied modes of energy transfer, impedances, and impact on system efficiency through energy regeneration of motors by building and experimenting with EV prototypes.
  • Constructed an Electric Vehicle Prototype with Autodesk Fusion 360 by designing prototype chassis, and system component enclosures & mounting apparatus.
  • Programmed system code involving motor controllers, motors, microcontrollers, and wireless input transmitters & receivers with Arduino Uno Microcontroller and Arduino IDE.
  • Manufactured system enclosures using machine tools such as hand drills, band saws, miter saws, and drill presses.
Mechanical Design Intern01/2018 to 12/2018Phoenix College NASA ASCEND Research TeamCity , STATE
  • Team member of Signal Transmission and Mechanical Structure Teams. Co-designed and developed electromechanical systems to improve satellite flight data quality and payload recovery for an optimal in-flight satellite to base communication.
  • Designed carbon fiber satellite payload with Autodesk Fusion 360 to meet required volume and weight constraints of prototype. Designed ventilation holes to cool electrical components.
  • Co- designed a three-axis motorized gimbal and mount system with Autodesk Fusion 360 with servo motor mounting brackets. Involved selection and assembly of standardized mounting hardware to meet angular (pitch, & yaw) requirements.
  • Performed analytical analysis to determine required motor torque, angular velocity, and stepper motor step resolution. Required selection of motor and controller that meets air drag condition calculations.
