I began my career path in criminal justice as a Military Police Officer for the United States Army in 1981 and received an honorable discharge in 1984. I received a college education in criminal justice at Henry Ford Community College while working for the Cities of Grosse Pointe Park and Detroit Police Departments. I continued my law enforcement career by joining the Michigan State Police in 1990.
I became a member of the 107th Trooper Recruit School at the age of 28. Upon graduation, I served at the White Pigeon Post working Cass and St. Joseph Counties. In 1993 I transferred to the Detroit Freeway Post, where I worked until I was selected to join the SE Michigan CID, assigned to the FBI-Detroit Alliance Fugitive Task Force. During my assignment I was primarily responsible for locating and arresting violent offenders. After being promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant in 1998, I was assigned to the FBI-Detroit Violent Crime and Gang Task Force (VCTF/VGTF).
I have held a federal security clearance since 1995 with the FBI and the clearance is valid until 10/2020.
In December 2018, I was reassigned to Second District Headquarters as District Detective where I was assigned until my retirement in June, 2019. Additionally, while assigned to headquarters, I conducted several background investigation of applicants to the Michigan State Police Recruit School.
Throughout my 38 years of training and experience in law enforcement I have successfully investigated over a thousand combined homicide, robbery, rape, corruption and assault complaints. Along with processing and investigating an incident, I have had experience in testifying to my practices in both state and federal judicial proceedings. I have received training in homicide and violent crime investigations. I have completed FBI-Safe Streets, ALERT, REID and SCAN training. Additionally, I have attended cellular phone analysis, drug trafficking training, as well as both the MSP and FBI RAID Entry Schools.
As a Detective Sergeant and member of the task force I have been recognized for my work ethic and achievements while serving as a squad leader on VCTF. One of my most recent accomplishments was when, in addition to continuing my duties as a member of the Violent Gang Task Force, I was requested to supervise and lead the initialization of a State Grand Jury Grant Project.
While working with 8 dedicated prosecutors, troopers and Detroit Police investigators we investigated over 350 non-fatal shooting complaints and increased the closure rate by 40 percent from a low of 18 percent in Detroit's tenth precinct.
