Certified social studies teacher with almost 20 years of experience in public and private schools; 10 of which has been working in "therapeutic" and emotional growth school settings. Teaching philosophy can be succinctly described as student-centered/driven. Developed and taught Advanced Placement and state curriculum-driven courses along with a variety of elective courses, including US History, World History, US Government and Politics as well as Psychology, Sociology and Economics. Elective courses, driven by my students' interests, included Music in History, the Holocaust, and the Model UN to name a few.
Secured money for, designed, organized, and co-led several creative learning experiences in both public and private school settings. One, a week-long Middle Age-themed full school program that culminated in a huge medieval banquet. Another, an intensive summer-long humanities course in which I partnered up with a colleague, an art teacher, took 8 of our students to study the Anasazi and Navajo cultures in Southeastern Utah, as well as the Plains Indians as we traveled out West. Supervised several Georgetown University "Presidential Classroom" experiences where my students engaged with students from across the country in mock legislation activities as they role-played senators and representatives. We also visited several historically and politically significant sites in the DC area.
