DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducting weekly safety training for current employees. Perform building safety Inspections at the facility, Perform monthly truck and trailer inspections to identify potential issues in regards to DOT safety violations. Manages the repair and maintenance of company owned and customer equipment to include the organization of the facility. Prepares work schedules and handles service calls to meet customer needs and assure that equipment is available as required. Orders parts in order to maintain adequate supplies. Provides training and assistance to all staff mechanics. Works with equipment vendors to learn the maintenance requirements and capabilities of new equipment added to inventory. Evaluates all equipment after repairs, maintenance or safety checks. Documents equipment status before and after rental. Handles customer complaints regarding equipment condition or operation. Promote safety awareness, perform quality control checks, update, maintain and keep organized equipment service records, create, update, close and bill work orders, file warranty claims in a timely fashion, commission New Equipment, order parts, return parts, and perform parts inventory. Disposal of Solid and Hazardous Material Waste (Batteries, used oil & filters, antifreeze, wash sludge)
During my tenure while serving as the Lead Engineering Department Supervisor and Career Programs Manager for a Navy Special Operations Command in California we developed an unparalleled career, safety and risk management program that resulted in our command receiving multiple safety and retention excellence awards. For my efforts and involvement I was a awarded a Navy Commendation Medal for my loyal and dedicated service to the U.S. Navy Special Operations Command.
Align piping systems for oil, water, and air for controlling the operation of diesel engines used for ship propulsion and service systems. Control operation of diesel generators used to produce electrical power. Clean, adjust, test and perform other preventive maintenance on a ship's auxiliary boilers, main engines, diesel generators and other auxiliary machinery including steering engines, elevators, winches, pumps, and associated valves. Operate and maintain desalinization plants (distilling plants) to make fresh water from seawater. Maintain refrigeration plants, air conditioning systems, and galley equipment. Repair or replace valves, pumps, heat exchangers, compressors, steam turbines, and hydraulic or pneumatic control devices. Operate and maintain the Navy's small boats. Make entries in and analyze machinery operating records and reports. Oversaw completion of productivity goals and educated employees on established command level processes. Performed administrative and record keeping functions in support of the command safety organization. Identified hazards, unsafe work practices, and health hazardous conditions. Assists in the evaluation of workplace hazards, including periodic workplace monitoring. Prepares various safety and mishap reports, maintains hazard abatement program documentation, and aids in mishap investigations. Disseminated Career Development information and safety program information throughout the chain of command; assisted other commands in organizing and implementing aggressive safety, enlisted retention, and career information programs; evaluate enlisted career and safety development programs within their own command and/or subordinate commands, coordinate and supervise counseling and safety efforts; counsel individuals and their family members on the advantages of safe practices and other career opportunities within the Navy, and give command level presentations on career programs and safety objectives.
Aviation Life Support Systems Technician duties included to safely inspect, maintain, manufacture, and repair aviation life support systems to include parachutes, seat pans, survival equipment, and flight and protective clothing and oxygen equipment; pack and rig parachutes; pack and outfit liferafts; troubleshoot oxygen systems, repair and test oxygen regulators and liquid oxygen converters removed from aircraft; fit and maintain oxygen masks, flight clothing, anti-exposure suits and anti-G suits; operate and maintain carbon dioxide transfer and recharge equipment; operate and repair sewing machines; conduct special calendar/periodic inspections of oxygen survival equipment; supervise operation of parachute lofts and survival equipment work centers.
As the Expert in the Parachute loft I was the Quality assurance representative that ensured all safety requirements were met prior to any gear leaving our shop. This requires direct approval by the Commanding Officer of our command and it is a very difficult qualification to obtain.
