Internal Only Comments Accountabilities Monitor radio and telephone, and communicate with other Train Dispatchers, Train and Engine crews, maintenance personnel, and others as needed. Monitor Train Movement and determine proper routing of trains. Operate computers for proper routing of trains. Complete paperwork required for train movements, track assignments and other events. A Bachelor Degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, Economics or Engineering. Equivalent experience (train dispatcher or logistics line management) will be considered. A post-graduate degree (MBA, JD, etc..) or higher and/or prior supervisory, transportation industry, military or air traffic controller experience is a definite plus 4 year(s) experience in Railroad operations with Train Dispatcher or logistics line management experience 4 year(s) experience in supervising with experience in a management/supervisory position (any company or organization including military) Department Not unlike an air traffic controller, train dispatchers constantly monitor train movement and conditions affecting their movement, taking immediate action when necessary. They use state-of-the-art technology at the Harriman Dispatching Center, where the movement of trains throughout Union Pacific's 23-state rail network is controlled. Dispatchers are in constant communication with field employees to ensure efficient operations.
