Falmouth Hospital - Obstetrics Registered Nurse, IBCLC
City, STATE, 02/1986 - Current

I began assisting women who were breastfeeding early in my nursing career. I trained through many workshops and conferences. In 1996 I became IBCLC certified. This helped me continue my focus in providing breastfeeding assistance to mothers and infants in an LDRP setting.

In 2008 I played a major role in the implementation of the lactation outpatient clinic at Falmouth Hospital. While continuing to assist in patients as a staff RN, I was also able to provide care to mothers and infants after discharge. During clinic appointments I utilized my skills to assess mothers and babies post discharge. I used breastfeeding assessments to assist and support the mother/baby couplets with technique for latching and feeding. Infant weights were evaluated during the visit. Breastfeeding plans were initiated or reevaluated. Follow up appointments were made as needed. I was able to work in conjunction with pediatricians for continued care.

I was also co-facilitator of the weekly breastfeeding support group for 9 years.
