Hired back with the Ottumwa Police Department in April 2010

  • Promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2011
  • Held the roles of Watch Commander and Field Supervisor on 1st, 2nd and 3rd Shift Patrol
  • Supervised three to four officers on a shift, giving them guidance, assisted on calls for service, reviewed reports & arrest paperwork, managed work schedules, completed evaluations on officers
  • As Patrol Sergeant handled numerous high risk calls including homicides, attempted homicides, shots fired, armed individuals and domestic abuse
  • Provided training for newly promoted Sergeants
  • 2011 joined the Emergency Response Team again and was made an Assistant Team Leader along with being the Shield Driver. During this time assisted the Team Leader and Team Commander in preparing for ERT deployments
  • 2014 was selected to be a department firearms instructor and armorer for the Pistol, Shotgun and Rifle and since that time have assisted with several department firearms qualifications and training
  • In 2016 was selected to be the Team Leader for the Emergency Response Team and currently in that position. As Team Leader completed the pre-operation work ups, reviewed them with the Team Commander and given the operation briefing/debriefing on operations
  • As the Emergency Response Team Team Leader I am also responsible for the monthly training of the Emergency Response Team
  • In 2016 I was selected to be the Training Sergeant for the department which also included moving to the Services Division and becoming the Supervisor of the Evidence Room, Evidence/DARE Officer, 3 School Resource Officers (2 at Ottumwa High School and 1 at Evans Middle School), the Community Services Officer and Parking Enforcement Officer. This position also got me involved in the management of the department's Patrol Training Officer Program and management of the department's fleet and equipment.
  • With the move to Services Division I also became more involved with how the department's budget works and the different funds the department pulls money from
  • I was able to make the department better by finding quality training to send officers to and host trainings that saved our department's training budget as well as provided training to law enforcement officers from other departments and make contacts with trainers
  • I also completed training on Internal Affairs Investigations and began conducting Internal Affairs Investigations for the department
  • I also became more involved with representing the department regarding the school resource officers with the Ottumwa Community School Board and the Mayor and City Council Members.
  • In my nine years as a Sergeant I have been involved in many critical incidents to include Officer Involved Shootings in 2016 and 2018.
