I am committed to developing and providing leadership in the realm of Public Service. After 26 years in the law enforcement field, I am continuing to use my acquired skills in the transportation industry. My goal is to make a contribution to the enhancement of transportation services through encouraging creativity and providing sound leadership that creates an environment for innovative progress.
Supervise and direct the work of first line supervisors and up to 150 transit operator, supporting staff development and training, and conducting performance evaluations.
Manage employee performance, including providing progressive discipline, taking disciplinary action, and making referrals to training and the service auditor.
Investigate and respond to allegations of employee misconduct. Interpret and apply labor agreements, in addition to King County and Metro Transit policies and procedures.
Work with internal and external groups, including other Operation units, Vehicle Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance, Scheduling, Finance, Union Officers, emergency response organizations, the public, and elected officials.
Workforce planning to ensure that adequate staff exists to meet service schedule requirements.
Project management within Transit Operations and throughout the Department of Transportation.
Make real-time decisions to support transit service during emergency situations.
Act as Superintendent of Base Operations when assigned
Served as a police supervisor for full-time King County Sheriff Deputies and a part-time work force of 300 Seattle Police Officers, both of which provided police services for Metro Transit. I provided direct supervision deputies and officers in the field.
Managing administrative responsibilities, such as payroll, staffing, handling complaints, and developing policy and procedures for our police operations.
Liaison to Metro Transit, networking with Metro Superintendents, Base Chiefs, and Supervisors, who are our customers, tailoring our services to Metro's specific priorities of "Safety, Service, and Schedule".
I exercised the skills of effectively listening, facilitating two-way communication, team-building, casting vision and mission, training and coaching, problem-solving, and leading by example.
I served as a Patrol Sergeant at the Burien precinct, supervising 10 to 15 deputies. I provided direct supervision for response to 911 calls, patrol deputy investigations, complaints, and training of deputies. Additionally, I was responsible for payroll, complaint investigations, accident reviews, personnel issues, coaching and training, and completing assigned projects. Leading in this way required that I know how to lead by example, deal with ambiguity, be decisive, set expectations, provide support and guidance, build trust, team-build, and communicate well in all directions.
I responded to 911 emergency calls, investigated a variety of non-emergency calls, conducted traffic investigations, served as a DARE officer, a Field Training Officer, and Master Police Officer.
During this time period, I also served as a Training Officer for the KCSO Training Unit. In that position, I served as the project manager for training 300 KCSO civilian employees in the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing. I assembled and led a team of instructors in developing the curriculum and providing the instruction.
I served as a parking attendant, collecting fees from parkers, balancing the cash register, assisting patients directions and parking related issues.
I served as a deputy, responding to 911 calls, investigated a variety of non-emergency calls, and investigated traffic accidents. This required a working knowledge of the federal, state, and local laws. I also communicated effectively, exercise good people skills, have a command presence, and communicated well in written reports. This position also required that I was able to enforce laws by making arrests in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. I resigned as a police officer to serve as a Pastor of a church and was also employed as a parking attendant for Swedish Hospital as noted above.
