I have completed an AHIMA approved certificate program in Health Information Technology/Medical Coding at Nassau Community college. The program is a 12 course, 37 credit certificate program. The comprehensive curriculum consists of 120 hours of basic and advanced CPT coding, 120 hours of basic and advanced ICD coding, a reimbursement methodologies course, a computer software applications in healthcare course, and courses in biology, pathophysiology and pharmacology. Upon finishing my course work, I completed an extensive internship at Mercy Medical Center in the Health Information Management department in which I utilized my knowledge to code a variety of inpatient, outpatient and ED charts. In addition to my coding duties, I completed a variety of other health information technician duties. I passed the CCA exam in 2012. I feel my extensive education in the field, coupled with the experience I obtained during my work-study makes me a qualified candidate for this position.
